The leadership strategy is one of the crucial factors to ensure the company’s development and increase the employee’s performance. There are many different approaches to understand the notion of leadership. The current paper compares two leadership approaches in order to discuss the peculiar features of leadership concepts and their relevance to the modern world organizations. Transformational and situational strategies consider the employee’s personal development as a central factor of the company’s development.
The transformational leadership approach is highly relevant for the actively changing life of the present day. Aiming to the constant changes and development of the company throughout the transformational model, the leaders should suggest implementing innovative ideas to change the outdated structure of the organization (Adams, 2019). This concept requires creating trustful relationships in the team and considers the employee creativity encouraged by the leader as the main factor of the success. The transformational approach is easily applied and usually increases the company’s performance (Adams, 2019). Therefore, applying this approach is essential because the company’s growth depends on the employee’s efficiency.
The second outstanding leadership approach which contributes to the growth of the organization is situational. Even though this model also stimulates trust in the team, it is more one-person-oriented. The situational approach requires leaders to analyze each situation and find the optimal solution respecting the employee’s interests (Adams, 2019). There are four possible variants of the leader behaviors, which are suitable for the different working situations: directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating (Adams, 2019). The leader decides which of the variants is ideal for each particular employee. This model is hard to use because it requires much more effort from the leader and is characterized by a high level of responsibility. However, applying the concept increases the employee’s overall performance by treating them as equal to the leaders and trying to understand each worker’s situation. Therefore, it is essential to use the situational approach to show respect to the employee.
Two analyzed leadership approaches aim to ensure the employee’s progressive development and build trustful relationships in the company. However, these two approaches use different strategies to achieve this aim. The transformational approach is more relevant nowadays because of the ongoing changes in the world and the high level of competition. Wise usage of transformational and situational leadership models contributes to implementing innovative ideas and teamwork, which are the crucial factors of the company’s success.
