Effective business management is a whole complex of processes that involve planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling activities aimed at achieving the company’s goals. These are recognized as the central management functions that work not separately but performed simultaneously, in integration (Mahta, 2017). Overall, effective business management is commonly acknowledged as a symbiosis of a manger’s personal qualities, work experience, and relevant professional education.

The task of a leader is to build a competitive strategy and control the stages of its implementation. Bedeian (2018) acknowledges the primacy of planning for effective administration: “the goal setting and operational planning are necessary before any intelligent consideration can be given to organizational relationships, staffing, direction, or control” (p. 141). Even if an organization does not have a spelled-out plan, managers of all levels should have an understanding of the course. Thus, planning is widely accepted to be the most fundamental function of management.

Implementation of business objectives and goals achievement requires proper organizing. This process involves outlining activities, assigning them to responsible departments, and their job coordination (Mehta, 2017). Organizing affects the enterprise structure markedly as it concerns the relationships of authority and responsibility. Thus, it is the process that integrates material and human resources into the productive process of achieving organizational goals. The enterprise employees are of particular significance in providing all the work necessary for the organization to function successfully. Their motivation and support are crucial for the stability and growth of production efficiency. Therefore, management should put as much effort at staffing function as any other function.

Directing and controlling are other essential functions of the leader. Clarifying subordinates’ responsibilities, providing guidance through the whole process, and motivating them to contribute significantly to company performance. Simultaneously, control over the staff’s conscious approach to goals and objectives is required (Bedeian, 2018). The ability to understand managerial work features, the mechanism of motivating employees, and proper understanding of the leader’s role default to a manager.

In my personal experience, I have worked with various managers and now have a specific list of skills I would like to see in them. To my mind, it is much more comfortable and easier to work with people whose managerial skills are mandatorily accompanied with the ability to manage themselves. I would like the leader of the company I work on to continuously maintain his or her performance and have exact personal values. After my experience with a manager who demanded a lot from our group but did not fulfill his duties himself, I want a leader to actually lead all employees by showing how to work hard.

Another manager I worked with in the past considered herself the best and stopped progressing and raising her qualifications and level of knowledge. In my opinion, it would be better for any modern leader to follow constant self-development as it is fundamental for success. Finally, all my previous managers lacked imagination and creativity, while I consider these traits rather crucial. I would want them to develop and share their enthusiasm and modern ideas with our group, which would increase the efficiency of the whole company.

To draw a conclusion, one may say that a modern enterprise is a holistic structure in which everything must be interconnected. Without considering at least one of the management system’s core elements, the organization lacks competent leadership. Failure in the work of one of the areas will necessarily affect the functioning of other components. To prevent this from happening, each company must establish an intelligent management system with managers willing to increase their competence.
