In the modern world, the development of technologies has become increasingly rapid, allowing more people of all ages to enjoy new opportunities. Unfortunately, the youngest generations get used to having computer games, smartphones, and Netflix as their usual ways of spending time after school or on the weekend. They do not often find some activities that were typical for their parents decades ago attractive and engaging, and this increases the problem with social inactivity and disconnectedness from nature. That is why it is essential for mothers and fathers to get their kids acquainted with some other ways of spending time, and one of them is fishing, which is also the topic of my visual. Indeed, this is an excellent activity for children of all ages since it has a number of benefits that positively influence younger generations.

When creating my visual, I tried to choose a picture that would effectively convey my topic and evoke positive emotions in the audience. That is why I used a photo of a small girl holding freshly caught fish. The picture’s background of grass and blue sky remind people of summer, which are usually lovely and positive memories. The girl herself seems very surprised, happy, interested, and sincerely involved in the process, and it is this mixture of emotions that proves that children need to be taught to fish. Her strong reaction to fish she caught by herself cannot be compared to winning a computer game or receiving likes and comments on social networks. Fishing is an opportunity for children not only to be in nature and communicate with their relatives but also truly participate in such a complex process that requires certain skills, patience, concentration, and a clear sequence of steps.

The slogan of my visual is “Fishing is fun! Go fishing!”. I chose it because it is attractive, easily understood, and persuasive since it provides a specific reason for being engaged in this activity – it is fun. What is more, this slogan works perfectly for both children and their parents. The former learns about a new way of spending time and may already think of it as an enjoyable activity, while the latter gets a reminder of fishing and the necessity of teaching it to their kids. Therefore, the target audience of this visual is families, including parents, grandparents, and children.

The reason why I selected this topic for my visual is that I find it extremely important but not discussed enough. Such tactics of persuasion as logos allows me to persuade the audience. According to Hanson (2016), fishing enables children “to learn when to take a break from technology” and “focus their eyes and attention spans on nature versus a computer screen” (para. 2). As mentioned in this essay’s introduction, modern kids spend too much time playing video games or watching TikTok. Most of them do not know how to enjoy being outdoors, so it is crucial for parents to do their best and involve their children in other, more valuable, and healthy activities.

Furthermore, fishing is a great opportunity for younger generations to improve their feelings of empowerment, accomplishment, and confidence. Catching one’s first fish is a lifelong memory and a positive experience that allows kids to be proud of themselves (Hanson, 2016). Finally, it is believed that fishing teaches more about the saltwater and freshwater ecosystems and conservation than educators do at school (Hanson, 2016). Children who love fishing are more involved in the idea of protecting nature, so it is an exceptional contribution to the future.
