Social change refers to how human relationships and interactions have reshaped cultural and social institutions. The embracement of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community members into society as a social change is one of the most relevant issues. LGBT community members have faced intense discrimination in a wide range of fields, including housing, access, and use of private and public resources, but such trends have diminished drastically. The evidence that their embracement into the society is tangible includes the Supreme Court of the USA abolishing bans that targeted same-sex marriage on June 26, 2015, across 50 states. Other countries that have legalized same-sex marriage include, Netherlands and Spain.

Additionally, some states have established legal protections for the LGBT community, including the USA, which prohibits employment discrimination. According to the local laws, every individual, including the LGBT community members, should have equal and fair access to housing, private and public resources. Moreover, there have been changes in the public’s cultural perspectives following the input of influential leaders in accepting the LGBT community members (Coley, 2017).

A notable example is former president Barrack Obama, who has publicly shown support to the LGBT community members by terming Uganda’s anti-homosexual bill as odious. Obama’s influence has seen 60% of Americans demonstrate support for the LGBT community members (Coley, 2017). The contributing factors to such a social change include the evolution of institutions to create legal frames that protect the LGBT members, such as the USA’s move to legalize same-sex marriage. The shifts in the public’s cultural perspectives, which have been influenced by political leaders such as that of President Barrack Obama, have led to the embracement of the LGBT community members.
